Unfinished

Slanted rays flit into black flecked with gold,
A soft brush, almost a caress of the cheek
And the ethereal light reveals stories best left untold
From the obsidian gemstone diamond leaks

The raven clasps a breathtaking hazel
And the lines blur into one beautiful symphony
But in the angelic moonlight it turns grey gravel
And now the black-brown friendship is history

The lights seem to dim when they stutter to a close
But celestial beauty returns when they twinkle back
Each cycle beautiful as each new petal of a rose
They widen when the gold tickles laughter into the black

She could stare into that depthless valley
Where the sun seemed to laugh with the midnight stars
Where the busiest street met the loneliest alley
Where the fighting sea saw the lighthouse of afar

But when she stared into the never-ending abyss
She couldn’t tell if sunlight flooded as gold took over
Or a clear lake shimmered blushing with an ashen kiss
She couldn’t even see the crackle of a flame when they gave her a charcoal closure

She still stayed gazing into that deep set window
That showed her nothing but a million colours
But she stayed and watched her curiosity grow
Until she was waiting for a million days and then another.
